Body Contouring

Why should I consider body contouring?

Many people who are of a healthy weight still have areas that are resistant to diet and exercise. You can’t eat a specific type of food or exercise away these stubborn pockets of fat in areas such as the belly, thighs, and love handles.

Dr. Nikolov offers procedures, such as radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis and liposuction, to help you in the battle of these bulgy areas.

What is radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis?

Radiofrequency-assisted lipolysis (RFAL) uses electrical energy to simultaneously melt fat beneath the surface of the skin and tighten the outer layers of your skin to give you a more svelte look. At The Nikolov Center for Plastic Surgery, Dr. Nikolov offers BodyTite® RFAL technology.

RFAL is minimally invasive, so healing and recovery take just a few days. During the procedure, Dr. Nikolov inserts a cannula just under the skin. This cannula, or probe, delivers the heat energy to fat cells, which are melted and removed with suction. An electrode is applied to the surface of your skin above where the fat is removed. It delivers radiofrequency energy to tighten the skin, so you aren’t left with lax, hanging skin that looks wrinkly and saggy.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction removes unwanted fat from specific areas, including your upper arms, belly, thighs, buttocks, and cheeks. Several types of liposuction are available, including tumescent, ultrasound-assisted, and the super-wet technique. Dr. Nikolov can review your goals, health, and fat distribution to determine which is best for you.

The best candidates for liposuction are healthy, with relatively elastic skin. Older patients with diminished skin tone may have less satisfactory results with liposuction.

What is the difference between RFAL and liposuction?

Liposuction is more invasive. It’s often performed under general anesthesia, it can leave scarring, and requires a longer recovery than RFAL. But while RFAL is gentler, it’s not for everyone.

Dr. Nikolov can review your body contouring goals to determine if BodyTite RFAL technology or one of the many versions of liposuction is best for you.
