Clearing Age Spots With Our Fractora Technology

You can do your best to take care of your skin, from staying out of the sun to using special soaps and moisturizers, but over time, your skin shows wear. Typically people start getting lines and wrinkles along their faces, and then also get age spots.

At the Nikolov Center for Plastic Surgery, we are here to support you looking and feeling your absolute best. Dr. Nicholas Nikolov is a highly skilled and respected plastic surgeon who offers his clients the best treatment options.  He takes the time to learn about you and your aesthetic goals before finding the best treatment options to help you achieve them.

What are age spots?

Age spots are small flat dark spots on the skin that vary in size and shape. They appear on areas of the body that get exposed to the sun, such as your hands, face, and arms. Some people call age spots “liver spots,” but they don’t have anything to do with your liver.

Although anyone can develop age spots, they are most commonly found in people over age 50. True age spots are not cancerous and don’t require any treatment. However, people often like to have them lightened or removed for cosmetic reasons, especially when they appear on the face.

What causes age spots?

Age spots are caused by exposure to the sun. When your skin is exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun or artificial sources like tanning beds, it naturally produces more pigment, or melanin, darkening your skin. Sometimes this melanin appears in small patches of light brown spots that don’t go away with time.

The way to avoid developing age spots is to prevent exposure to UV light by staying out of the sun, avoiding tanning beds, or using clothing and sunblock to prevent your skin from being exposed. Once you have age spots, they can be removed with bleaching creams, but the most effective option is having them treated with Fractora™.

What is Fractora?

Fractora is a highly effective treatment option for the removal of skin discoloration. It uses radiofrequency energy combined with microneedling to stimulate your skin cells. This causes your skin to produce more collagen, the protein in your skin. The result is firmer, brighter skin with improved texture and tone. The radiofrequency energy blasts the pockets of melanin, causing your age spots, dissolving them.

What happens during the Fractora procedure?

To complete the Fractora treatment, Dr. Nikolov has you recline in a comfortable chair. He applies a numbing cream to the targeted treatment areas to ensure you don’t experience any discomfort during the Fractora procedure.

Dr. Nikolov then guides a small handheld device over the surface of your skin. You may experience a gentle sensation of heat but won’t feel any discomfort or pain. The procedure generally lasts an hour or two, depending on how large of an area you are having treated.

Once the treatment is complete, you can return to your regular activities. You may experience some redness and peeling of your skin during the first few days. Using an ointment or moisturizer is recommended to help soothe any discomfort. You see results from the procedure within a few weeks, with continued improvement during the following months.

Although age spots can mar the appearance of your skin, you don’t have to live with them. Call our office or use our online booking system to learn more about how Fractora can remove your age spots, restoring your complexion.
